Commander and musician

Finished the music lizard:

And the commander/hero. Wanted to make him stand out from the other lizards, so I made his spikes red and some of his scales yellow and blue:

Saurus command unit

Got started on the next 4 warriors today. Decided to glue together the full command group and one extra warrior.

I didn't glue on the hand with the standard/flag or the drum onto the warriors so I can paint them in more detail.

Black undercoat:

For the standard which is shaped like a lizard, I decided to use the same colours as for the Saurs warriors - light blue and purple. I think it fits in well with the look of my unit :)

Finished Standard Bearer:

Together with the other 4:

4 Saurus Warriors done

Finished another 2 Saurus warriors this morning. 4 down 12 to go :)

The two new ones:

All four together:

Gonna try gluing and pairing some of the command unit later today.

Started on Saurus Warriors

As soon as I finished work yesterday, I made a start on my Saurus warriors. This is the first one i glued together:

I found that the parts didn't fit very well together. It was like some of the legs were twisted, and wouldn't fit at the right angle. I had to hold them the right way for ages until the glue set in. I ended up gluing 4 lizard together (for the last two, the parts fit much better):

It was then time for the black undercoat with the spray:

Then I painted the skin bits blue, with the colours they have on the GW website:

I found them way to dark, and you'll later see I decided to make their skin much lighter. I also decided to make the scales purple rather than blue, painting each scale individually:

I spent the whole night on my first one, so like around 5-6 hours. They're much harder to paint than elves because you have to be so precise with the scales and everything. I finished this one around 3am lol:

As you can see I made the spikes on the back one colour, and went for a lighter shade of purple. On the box and the website some of the spikes have metal bits, but I thought it would look better if they were more natural :) I also added some detail on the top of the skull (the little lines).

This morning I woke up at 9 and finished my second one by 12:30 :)

I think they look quite cool together and can't wait to get more finished (but I don't wanna rush them). I am very happy with the way the purple scales look, even though they're a real pain to get paint individually. I also used the sand I got for the bases, I think that looks quite cool. Let me know what you think!

Stuff I bought

I went into town yesterday to get all the stuff I needed. I don't have any of my old stuff with me so I had to start from scratch.

I got the Citadel Paint station for £25. I think its a bit expensive but its really useful. All the paints sit in it perfectly, It also holds all my brushes, my water pot and means my whole desk isn't messy.

I got 17 different pots of paint and one black wash. I hate the new design of the paint pots. They are a pain to open, and you have to hold the lid open everytime you want to get more paint. It would be fine if I had 3 hands, but I don't so it sucks.

I also got the chaos black spray can thingy. Its very useful, and makes undercoating everything very easy.

I then got some tools such as pliers, a scalpel knife and 8 brushes (non citadel ones), a paint mixing thingy, superglue, PVA glue and citadel sand for the bases. It all looks like this:

I then decided to get a pack of 16 Lizardmen saurus Warriors:

Although I order the Lizardmen Battalion box (which has some saurus warriors) online on Friday, I decided to get more Saurus Warriors anyway, as I read that they are really good to start off with for small armies.

And also I couldn't be asked to wait until next week to start gluing and painting :P

The battalion box has 20 warriors, so I'll probably run them as two units of 18.

Welcome

Hi, welcome to Lizardmen Blog. The idea is simple: a blog dedicated to WFB Lizardmen.

I used to collect/paint warhammer figures 5 years ago (in my early teens). I never played any proper games; I just really enjoyed putting everything together, painting it, making terrain etc. I never collected any one race, although i tended to choose elves, as I was quite impressed by the elves in LOTR. I had a small collection of High Elves, as well as a regiment of Dark Elves, and lots of LOTR figures.

Anyways, I'm now at uni, and have decided to go back to warhammer. Ive really missed everything about it and I think I can finally take it seriously as I have lots of free time, and a part time job so I can afford to buy the stuff I need :)

I have decided to start collecting lizardmen. I wanted to try out a new race, and I also think that well-painted lizardmen look awesome.

Seeing as theres no blog/site (that I could find) dedicated solely to lizardmen, which would offer pictures, stories and advice on playing and collecting, I thought I'd start my own, writing about my collection as it grows. Hopefully in the future it'll help people like me, who want to start a lizard army but don't know where to start.
